What Is Slipknot?
These self-proclaimed "freaks" from Des Moines draw upon elements of thrash, hip-hop, and shock-rock with brutal results. The music world may not have seen such a marriage of aggression and technical precision since the rise of thrash pioneers Slayer. At times Slipknot steps into the musical guises of heavy purveyors such as Korn, Powerman 5000, and Sepultura. However, even with the derivative nature of metal, this nine-member ensemble manages to be something original.  Slipknot was brought together in 1995 by Paul Grey, Shawn Crahan, and former member, Anders Colsefni.  Slipknot began to spread the "(sic) ness" with their first album, "Mate.  Feed.  Kill.  Reapeat." which lead to to knew heaights.  They later recruted new members, and created theri sendond album, "Slipknot".  Slipknot consists of nine member:  Sid Wilson (#0 - Turntables), Joey Jordison (#1 - Drums), Paul Grey (#2 - Bass), Chris Fehn (#3 - Custom Percussion), Jim Root (#4 - Guitar), Craig Jones (#5 - Sampler/Media), Shawn Crahan (#6 - Costom Percussion), Mick Thompson (#7 - Guitar), and Corey Taylor (#8 - Vocals).  The group mascarade the rock scene in their individual masks, each representing a personality, and there draping jumpsuits.  Rather than hiding themselves, Slipknot feel they are showing their true personalities and inner selves with the masks which also add to the flavour and intensity of the music due to the sheer awkwardness of the masks. Slipknot has gained new fans and support with the release of the self-titled album which soon stormed to platinum status.  Slipknot has shown the people and what worlds really about and at the same time, put Iowa back onto the map.
